Okay, Firstly, What Is a Botox® Eye Lift/Brow Lift?
A Botox® eye lift entails injecting Botox® or a similar product at specific points near the brow. This results in a subtle eyebrow lift and creates a wider, more open eye. The treatment also softens hooded eyes as well as addresses age-related brow sag.
Is This The Same As a Botox Forehead Lift?
Yes! The terms “Botox brow lift,” “Botox eyebrow lift,” “Botox eye lift,” and “Botox forehead lift” are all used interchangeably. However, the first two phrasings are typically the most common.
How Does a Botox® Eyebrow Lift Work? (Science Alert!)
Botox®, or botulinum toxin type A, is injected into the orbicularis oculi and corrugator muscles. These are the ones responsible for pulling the brows downward. This freezes those muscles, allowing the frontalis muscle to pull the brows upward, creating a lifting effect.
We always recommend choosing a knowledgeable injector when getting treatment as the choice of injection site greatly impacts the outcome. Injecting incorrectly can cause the brows to droop, resulting in the opposite intended effect. Incorrect injection sites can also result in “spocking” — aka when the sides of the eyebrows turn upwards. This results in a sinister or “Spock-like” effect.
How Many Units Will I Need?
Units needed for a Botox® brow lift varies from person to person. On average you’ll receive 4-8 units on the outer side of each eyebrow. Most patients also typically receive about 20-30 additional units in the area between the eyebrows for optimal results. Men can typically expect to require more units than women as their facial muscles are larger.
How Much Does a Botox® Brow Lift Cost?
Botox® eyebrow lift pricing is dependent on a variety of factors, not least of which is your location (the price per unit of neurotoxin in, for example, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeons’ office is higher than in a Cleveland suburb). The experience level of your provider will also have an effect, as a more experienced injector with a high level of training and education is likely to charge more for their time and expertise.
In general, though, you can expect to pay anywhere from $12-$17/unit.
How Long Does a Botox® Brow Lift Last?
Just as with the forehead, a Botox® eye lift last 3-4 months. Patients who exercise regularly typically metabolize the product out faster.
Are There Any Side Effects?
A Botox brow lift is considered extremely safe. Some people experience minor bruising or redness at the injection sites. This is temporary and will fade same day or within a week. As with all injectables there is a chance of more severe bruising, but this is rare.
If you do not like the results of your non-surgical brow lift, rest assured that the effects are temporary and will fade as soon as your Botox® does. Additionally, spocking can be treated almost immediately and simply requires a few additional units in the forehead.
