Laser For Acne
TREATING ACNE AT THE ROOT
Laser for acne or “laser facials” for acne can be a fantastic addition to an acne treatment program, especially when combined with the appropriate at-home skin care. These treatments both calm active breakouts while also reducing redness and inflammation, leaving you with a calmer, clearer complexion.
How Lasers Works to Treat Acne
Laser treatments use targeted laser energy to shrink the sebaceous (aka oil) glands under the surface of the skin, which are the glands that — when over active — cause congestion and breakouts. This can provide effective, longterm control of acne eruptions for many clients. A randomized study of 63 patients showed that just three laser sessions spaced 4-weeks apart resulted in a significant reduction in inflammatory acne.
Laser and Redness
Laser treatments don’t just help control active breakouts, but they also treat the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused after a breakout (i.e. the lingering redness and discoloration after the active breakout has healed).
What To Expect During Laser Acne Facials
Laser acne treatments take about 30 minutes and require no downtime. Some clients request a topical numbing gel applied before their appointment, but this is optional and not needed. You can resume all normal activities after treatment, though it is imperative that you wear SPF 50 on your skin for the week before and after treatment and avoid direct sun exposure.
How Long Until I See Results?
We recommend 3-4 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart, and most clients experience visibly calmer skin by their second treatment. Some clients will experience skin purging and breakouts after the initial treatment, but this is normal and is not a cause for alarm.
Am I A Good Candidate For Laser Acne Treatments?
Laser acne facials are generally very well tolerated by all skin types! Patients will also have a pre-treatment exam to ensure they are a good candidate for treatment.
