Fillers for lips, cheeks, jawline and more. Here is what filler can do, how lip filler works at our office, and how we choose between the Juvéderm®, Restylane®, RHA®, Belotero® and Radiesse® families.
MedBeautyLA is proud to serve as the most trusted practice for facial filler in downtown Los Angeles. Our small team of expert injectors are known for their experience as well as their artful aesthetic eye. Facial filler is most commonly used for restoring a more youthful appearance and increasing facial symmetry. That being said, we use filler in our practice to address many aesthetic concerns, including:
Dermal fillers have a wide range of uses in the aesthetics space. They can increase contour in the cheeks, address age-related sag and volume loss, fill in smile lines around the mouth, refine the jawline, and refresh the under-eye area — to name just a few! We recommend coming in for an in-person consultation so one of our experienced providers can assess your needs and create the right treatment plan for you. When several areas are treated together to bring your features into proportion, we call it facial balancing.
Lip filler is one of our most popular treatments. Lip shaping is by far one of the most in-demand treatments at our office — and in the aesthetic space in general right now. It's also one of the areas that causes the most concern and anxiety among many of our first-time clients. Many patients want more volume and fuller-looking lips, but they also do not want to appear overdone. We completely understand this dilemma, and it's why our providers are committed to natural-looking enhancements that contribute to overall facial balance and harmony.
All lip filler appointments are booked with one of our experienced injectors, who take time and care to listen to each client's individual needs and goals — from lips that "pop" to subtle, ultra-natural enhancements. Popular lip filler choices include Restylane Kysse and Volbella, both described below.
Our most common treatments for lip shaping include:
Juvéderm offers one of the best-known collections of dermal fillers on the market. Their versatile line is formulated with hyaluronic acid (HA), which plumps the face to create volume. Each member of this family of injectable HA gels has a slightly different consistency.
Juvéderm XC. This classic formulation of Juvéderm is extremely versatile. Juvéderm is used for nonsurgical rhinoplasty, filling in mild-to-moderate wrinkles and creases around your mouth and nose, and creating dramatic lip augmentations. Juvéderm lasts about 6 months in the lips and up to a year or more in facial creases.
Vollure. Thicker than Juvéderm, Vollure is perfect for filling in deeper wrinkles and folds. Vollure can keep your face looking smooth and young for up to 18 months.
Voluma. Voluma builds up your mid-face to restore lost volume. Dr. Aliksanian can even use it to create higher, more elegant cheekbones to lift and define your face. If you have a weak chin, Voluma can be used for a non-surgical chin augmentation, too. Voluma lasts up to 18 months.
Volbella. This thin, honey-like formulation is the ideal choice for a subtle and natural-looking lip augmentation. Dr. Aliksanian also uses Volbella to fill in tear troughs under your eyes and to smooth out smoker's lines around the mouth. Volbella contains lidocaine to increase your comfort during the injection process, and it can last for a year or more.
Volux. Volux is designed to mimic bone, making it the perfect consistency for jawline and chin shaping. And unlike other jawline fillers, Volux is derived from hyaluronic acid, meaning it can be dissolved if needed.
SkinVive. SkinVive is the first FDA-approved HA filler to be delivered in microdroplets. This means it can be injected intradermally — aka more superficially — thus smoothing the actual skin. SkinVive returns a youthful glow to your complexion while looking completely natural.
Restylane also relies on HA to replenish your skin and plump up dents, creases and wrinkles. Restylane has a complete family of products that can do everything from restore cheek volume to rejuvenate your hands. In fact, Restylane is the only HA-based dermal filler that's been cleared by the FDA for use in the hands.
Kysse. Restylane Kysse has quickly become the most popular lip filler on the market due to its soft, subtle results that allow clients to retain a full range of natural expressions. It also causes less immediate post-injection swelling, meaning a decrease in potential downtime.
Contour. Restylane Contour is the newest addition to the Restylane filler family but has quickly become one of the most commonly used. It is fantastic for creating contour and definition in the upper cheeks, and can even be used in the lips for those seeking that extra pop.
Refyne and Defyne. The newer Restylane Defyne and Refyne have a groundbreaking, flexible formulation that moves when you do. These HA products are perfect for filling out deep creases around the mouth and nose, as their elasticity allows for natural-looking expressions at all times. The results typically last 9 to 12 months.
RHA is the first filler specifically designed for superficial lines in the most expressive area of the face (think: smoker's lines, lines around the mouth, and smile lines). The smooth and flawless results of Redensity RHA have quickly made it a client favorite for this specific reason. Learn more about Redensity RHA here.
Belotero® is a versatile, cohesive HA injectable filler. It smooths moderate-to-severe wrinkles, treats fine lines around the lips, and addresses under-eye hollows. Its flexible formulation blends seamlessly with the structure of your skin, allowing you to retain your full range of expressions. Belotero lasts about 9 months in dynamic areas and up to 18 months in more static ones.
Radiesse® is best known for rejuvenating hands, and is also an excellent choice for jawline filler. The microspheres in Radiesse are injected into your skin to create immediate volume while simultaneously stimulating your body's collagen production response. These fresh new proteins gradually replace the microspheres as they are eliminated by your body. Radiesse is formulated with lidocaine to limit discomfort. It can last for a year or more.
You can combine your liquid facelift, lip augmentation, or other injectable-filler treatment with a variety of other aesthetic procedures, including facial rejuvenation with chemical peels, dermaplaning, or Ultherapy. For gradual, collagen-building volume, ask about Sculptra®. It all starts with a phone call or a consultation.

This is one of the most common questions we hear from our clients. While there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach, this blog post can help you understand when you should start considering filler treatments.
Your provider will assess your goals and facial structure in order to create the most effective filler plan for your specific face. Some clients will require firmer fillers to address corrections on the nose or jawline, and others will require softer, more flexible filler to mimic softer tissue. There is no one-size-fits-all filler because every patient is different. As a rule of thumb, Juvéderm and Restylane are great for lips and fine lines, RHA for dynamic areas, Radiesse for deeper volume, and Sculptra for gradual, long-term results. We'll recommend the best option during your consultation.
Filler is an extremely tolerable experience. Your provider uses topical numbing cream, and most fillers are formulated with lidocaine — meaning you will feel relatively little as your injector works. Ice and gentle technique minimize any remaining discomfort.
Typically 6-24 months depending on the product, treatment area, and your metabolism. Lips tend to metabolize faster (6-9 months) while cheeks can last 12-24 months. Sculptra can last 2+ years.
