Questions? We’ve compiled our most frequently asked questions to help you make an informed decision about your aesthetic treatments.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What happens during my first MedBeautyLA consultation?
A: If you’re a new patient, please let your provider know about any medications or supplements you’re taking. You should also share your complete medical history so she can choose the most appropriate treatments for you.
During your consultation, we will ask about your treatment goals and discuss the kinds of results you can expect. Our aim is to enhance your natural beauty, not change your look entirely.
Q: Do I need to do anything before receiving injectables or exfoliation?
A: To minimize your risk of bleeding or bruising, we ask that you discontinue any nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) that you’re taking at least two days before your procedure. If these are prescription medications, let us know so we can discuss your options with you. You should also discontinue any blood-thinning herbs, such as ginger and garlic. We will give you a complete list of substances to avoid during your consultation.
Q: Do aesthetic procedures hurt?
A: We makes sure that you are comfortable during your procedure. If you’re having dermal fillers injected, for instance, each of the formulations that are used contains the anesthetic lidocaine, providing you with minimal discomfort. We will also numb the treatment area with topical anesthetics for further reduction of discomfort.
Q: Are there side effects of aesthetic procedures?
A: Side effects of Botox, dermal fillers, Ultherapy, or exfoliation procedures are generally mild and temporary. With some procedures you may experience mild tingling, redness, swelling or bruising. You will be provided with procedure-specific aftercare instructions to help keep you comfortable and to speed up your recovery.
Q: Will I have downtime after aesthetic procedures?
A: After your procedure, After your procedure, our providers will complete your treatments with SPF specific to your skin type. You can apply makeup and return to most of your normal activities immediately after treatment. Be sure to follow your aftercare instructions!
In addition, we recommend that you refrain from lying down for at least four hours after your treatment. You should also avoid any kind of exercise (other than light walking) for at least four hours after Botox and Kybella and 24 hours after other dermal fillers.
I am a management consultant in my mid-30s and the majority of my work is on the road in different countries, meeting with multi-national corporate clients. Therefore, my face is my calling card, and while I need to sound experienced and seasoned, I don’t want to look seasoned. I need to look fresh, youthful, and energized, without being overdone. With the stress of my job, I was starting to notice some really serious marionette smile lines around my mouth, and deep forehead lines where I tend to furrow my brow. I don’t have the energy (nor the skill) to apply heavy makeup to cover up the aging, and I wanted to have these areas treated for good, but also did not have time to make an appointment and drive to a medical facility, wait half an hour to check in, and then deal with all the formalities. That’s when I learned about Med Beauty Spa from a friend who had also been using their services. Med Beauty was not only super flexible with scheduling, but they came to me! I was really nervous the first time I tried Botox, but Dr. Aliksanian was so incredibly forthright, gentle, and patient in talking me through every step of the process, and answering all of my questions. That was 4 years ago. Since then, I see Dr. Aliksanian about every 3-6 months, depending on when I am not traveling, and I have also had the most fantastic results on the smile lines around my mouth with Juvederm. The treatments come out so natural that even my husband can’t tell (he just assumes I am sleeping better). The results have been so incredible, and Med Beauty’s service model so convenient and reliable, that I have even referred colleagues who are in the same boat! And here’s the thing–I could wait until my lines and age spots become more prominent in 10 or 20 years and then do a ton of heavy work (e.g. facelift) that will be pretty obvious because of the drastic difference, or I can start with mild, micro-adjustments now, so that the aging is “graceful” and looks like a smooth transition. This is no different than using high end beauty creams every night, except that Med Beauty guarantees results and will cost you a lot less time and money in the long run.
