Reveal Brighter, Even-Toned Skin with the Cosmelan® Peel
If you’ve noticed dark patches, uneven skin tone, or stubborn melasma that just won’t fade no matter what serum you try, you’re not alone. Hyperpigmentation is one of the most common skin concerns we see at our downtown Los Angeles med spa — and one of the most frustrating for patients to manage on their own.
That’s where the Cosmelan® Peel comes in — a professional depigmentation treatment designed to dramatically reduce pigmentation and restore clarity, radiance, and balance to your complexion. The Cosmelan® system offers a controlled, medical-grade reset for skin tone, helping patients achieve a luminous glow while addressing the deeper biological and environmental causes of many forms of skin discoloration.
What Is the Cosmelan® Peel?
The Cosmelan® Peel is a professional chemical peel system created by Mesoestetic®, a leading global medical skincare brand. Unlike standard chemical peels that merely exfoliate the surface of the skin, the Cosmelan® method goes deeper, targeting the root cause of pigmentation.
Cosmelan® works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase, which triggers excess melanin production. By calming this overactive reaction, the peel helps fade existing dark spots and prevents new ones from forming.
The treatment is suitable for all skin types and tones, including deeper complexions that are often more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
What Skin Concerns Does the Cosmelan® Peel Treat?
At our downtown L.A. med spa, we recommend Cosmelan® for a wide range of pigmentation issues, including:
- Sun spots and age spots from UV exposure
- Post-acne marks and discoloration
- Melasma — hormonally triggered brown patches on the cheeks, upper lip, or forehead
- Uneven tone and dullness caused by environmental damage
The result? A brighter, smoother, and more uniform complexion, often with visible improvement after just one treatment cycle.
How It Works: Two Phases for Lasting Results
Phase 1: In-Office Peel Application
Your treatment begins in our med spa with a Cosmelan® 1 mask, professionally applied by one of our licensed medical aestheticians. The mask stays on for a specific number of hours (usually between 8–12), depending on your skin type and the level of pigmentation being treated.
After your appointment, you’ll go home with the mask still on your skin and remove it at the instructed time. During the first few days, mild redness and peeling are expected — similar to a moderate sunburn — as the skin renews itself.
Phase 2: At-Home Maintenance
For final results, it is critical that you complete the Cosmelan® 2 home care regimen, which includes applying a specialized depigmenting cream twice daily for 3-6 months.
This phase is crucial as it reinforces the inhibition of pigment production, ensuring that your skin continues to brighten while preventing new spots from forming. Consistent use of sunscreen and professional guidance from your provider are key to maintaining results.
Time to Results
You can expect initial results (some pigment fading / brightening) in about 2-3 weeks after the mask phase.
More meaningful improvements appear around 4-6 weeks (some clinics note “maximum” marked change at ~4–5 weeks). The peak or “final” visible results are often seen around 3-6 months post-treatment.
What to Expect After Your Treatment
After your Cosmelan® peel, you can expect:
- Mild redness, tightness, or flaking for 5–7 days
- Gradual brightening within the first week
- A smoother, glass-like texture by week two
- Even tone and fading pigmentation by week three to four
Most patients see a significant reduction in dark spots (60–90%) after one treatment cycle. Results continue to improve over several months with consistent home care and sun protection.
Cosmelan® vs. Traditional Chemical Peels
While traditional chemical peels, like glycolic or TCA, resurface the top layer of the skin, Cosmelan’s® formula combines 13 active ingredients, including azelaic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid, and arbutin, to regulate pigment production at its source.
That means the results aren’t just temporary. With proper aftercare, patients can enjoy long-term improvement in tone and clarity.
Many patients who’ve tried lasers or brightening serums without success find Cosmelan® to be the first treatment that finally delivers dramatic, visible change.
